Being an editor in the special sections department at the Ventura County Star meant taking a section from idea to publication.

On a weekly basis, Extra (five zones – Camarillo, Oxnard, Simi Valley, Conejo Valley and Ventura) and  Star Homes  needed stories assigned and written, copy edited, visuals created, layouts designed and pages paginated. 

Extra was a free, broadsheet edition of the Star, featuring the most interesting and important stories of the week. Non-traditional newspaper readers connected with the innovative design and colorful visuals of the editions. 

Star Homes featured some of the most beautiful homes in Ventura County, as well as stories about the local industry, recent home sale data and open house listings.
